I was skeptical at first about this book, it was so hyped and talked about when it first came out. I heard that it was a “Beauty and the Beast” retelling and that made me nervous. Most retellings aren’t that good and are super disappointing. However, this retelling was really good!
I gave this a 5 out of 5 stars.
The characters had a lot of growth and it was more for the older young adults, which is nice. Most retellings seem like they are for high school age and that really leaves out a bunch of books for young adults.
I really enjoyed reading this, I thought that the plot line was good and the fact that it had hard stuff in it really sold it to me. We all want happy fairytales but this one was much darker and I like that. Im not saying I don’t like happy fairytales but Im ready for something new as far as they are concerned.
The cover is beautiful, I really enjoyed the aesthetic parts of the book as well as the story. The writing is okay, but from what I hear the authors writing grew tremendously in the second book, which I still need to read.
Its definitely one I would recommend for anyone in the 20-25 age range. Its a very creative and interesting story.
