Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. – 1 Peter 1:8-9
Joy is often understood as being happy, when you ask someone what brings them joy, they’ll say things like family, school, or nature. This misconception is sadly one that almost everyone has. I even understood it to be happiness until…. I gave my life to the Lord.
Joy isn’t something human, or something that we can have on our own from human devices. It comes solely from God. Yes, its true that joy is like happiness, but it is much deeper than that. Joy is the deep contentment that comes from knowing the Lord, He gives us joy. Think of the happiest moment in your life, now think about that being filled with a deep peace. It is joy.
I think its easy to forget what joy really is because there are so many tings in life that distract us from feeling peace.I know that with Levi going through the four month sleep regression, Im so tired that I miss the moments filled with joy. To recognize these moments more often we need to spend some time in prayer asking the Lord for patience and the ability to think clearly.
I know that everyone has a busy life but it is important that we take a break to see the things that are joyous. The things that bring light to our lives. God made a way for us to be redeemed and to walk in freedom. We should take advantage of that and look at the world around us. If we focus on the good things in life too it will help us feel the joy that God has set in our lives.
I hope that you have a wonderful day, full of joy and I hope that you’re able to recognize it when it happens and see it clearly.
