The Raven by Mike Nappa

As part of his street performance, a deception specialist who goes by the name of The Raven picks his audience’s pockets while they watch. Its harmless fun- until he decides to keep the wallet of a prominent politician, hoping for a few extra bucks. When he finds compromising photos of the councilman and his “personal assistants”, The Raven hatches a plan to blackmail the man. However, he quickly finds himself in over his head with the Ukranian mafia and mired in a life threatening plot code named “Nevermore”

If you’re looking for a good book to read during the fall season, this is the perfect book! Its filled with thrills, mystery, and some scary things. I really enjoyed this book, it wasn’t what I was expecting. Usually books like this are super cheesy and hard to get through but, I found that the amount of cheesiness was pretty low. I enjoyed thatch chapter was from a different person’s perspective.

The author did a really good job keeping the plot from coming together until almost the very end! Many of the characters are like able, and some are relatable. Its easy to read, nothing too crazy but it is a little bit on the chunky side. I read through it in about a day, so its a decent read. If you’re into mystery, or detective novels, this is a good pick! I gave it a 5 out of 5 stars, there was nothing to complain about.

My favorite part about the book was that it used a lot of Edgar Allen Poe’s work, the “Nevermore” code name, and story being read out loud was cool. The name of the deception specialist being “The Raven” kept everything well connected. This book really uses things that I haven’t seen much of in other mystery novels!
