#1 New York Times bestseller Milk and Honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. About the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. The book is divided into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose. Deals with a different pain. Heals a different heartache. Milk and Honey takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look.
When this book first came out and some of my friends were posting a few of them poems, I didn’t have any interest in reading it. Finally I gave in because a family member kind of told me what it was about and she enjoyed it. After reading it, Im glad I finally picked it up!
I gave this a 4 out of 5 stars, I like how some of the poems are uncomfortable, I think that is what art, most times is supposed to be. Art, poetry, make us think about the deepest part of ourselves and exposes everything. I like how the book is divided in sections, you can really see her thought process and why she wrote the poems the way she did.
I’m excited to pick up her newest book, “The Sun and Her Flowers” it came out in October. This is an amazing read for all women, I would say when a girl starts puberty it would be a good time for her to read through these poems. I think even some men would benefit from reading this as well,
