As I have loved you, so you must love one another, Jesus said. But Jesus followers everywhere feel empty and alone. They desperately try to love others without really, deeply knowing His love for themselves. In Detroit, Pastor J. Kevin Butcher has seen the true, deep, wild love of Jesus transforming the lives of prisoners and prostitutes, along with businessmen and lawyers, as they choose to lay down their fear, shame, and pain and turn to the arms of our pursuing God. Through the stories of deeply wounded people from all walks of life, Choose and Choose again offers hope for all to experience this profound love. Walk alongside Dan and Sophia and Keith and Lory- as well as Kevin himself- to journey into the fullness and freedom of the healing power of the love of a God who is Abba, our Father.
This book is a must read! It challenged me and made me feel things so deep! This really showed me how much Im missing by believing the lie that God does not truly love me. I think that almost every person can relate to the stories within this book, J. Kevin Butcher does such a good job of being transparent and honest.
These stories don’t always end happily which is more of what I wish books showed us. Happy endings are great and uplifting but, we are all human. I think sometimes its hard to relate to these books when they do that. If you are like me and didn’t grow up with a good father figure in your life, or a father at all, this book covers you in love. It is so, so good to see how much you are loved and valued.
I gave this book a 5 out of 5 stars, I didn’t have any issues with it, in fact I want to read through it with my husband. I would recommend this to everyone, even if you don’t believe in God, its a good way to see that you’re so loved. I really want to read another book by this author, he has a really nice writing style. I didn’t find myself being stressed or bored through this book and it paired well with my personal devotion time.
